Cafe RougeWelcome to Reigate and Redhill. We are putting together a new site that will bring you events news, articles about Reigate and Redhill and business information.

Reigate was first mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086 being a small settlement. The book read, “The King holds Cherchefelle (to become Reigate) in demesne. Edith the Queen held it. There are 3 ploughs, 67 villeins and 11 borders. There are two mills worth 12 shillings less 2 pence, and 12 acres of meadow.”

The Parish became a Municipal Borough in 1863, with the towns’ history and importance being centred around the site of the old Normal Castle within the Castle grounds, the Priory and the Old Town Hall built in 1729 in the centre of Reigate.

Members of the press and public are invited to come along and observe the opening. A class from Reigate Priory Junior School will switch on the newly restored fountain included within the Gardens. Representatives of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and the Gardens’ sponsors, Legal & General will also be present at the opening.

The restoration of Priory Park Formal Gardens is part of the million pound renovation of Reigate’s Priory Park. The Heritage Lottery Fund provided £4.2m to support the works that are taking place. The restoration of these Formal Gardens was undertaken in partnership with corporate sponsors Legal & General.

Attendees will be able to meet Land Use Consultants, landscape architects for the Priory Park scheme, and then take a guided tour of the picturesque surroundings.

A photo call will take place at the opening and a post news release with photographs will be issued to press.
